Walks

Screw Creek Walk, Inverloch - 2 1/2 kms.
Undulating scenic walk along a boardwalk which takes you through the Salt Marsh and across Screw Creek Bridge (originally built in 1971) and then up to the scenic Townsend Bluff with it's ever changing views over the Anderson's Inlet. The Loop Track then takes you through a young Paperbark Forest, a Kangaroo grass slope and an old Paperbark Forest to join onto the main track and back to the Car park.

Thompson's Estate Walk, start at Tarwin Lower Road, Inverloch near roundabout.
Flat; about 30 minutes; through bush to rear of tennis court

Point Smyth Coastal Walk, end of Lees Road, Venus Bay - 6 kms.
Rough, undulating and very pretty, takes about 2 hours. Also, Anderson's Inlet Walk, 40 minutes each way

Tarwin Lower Boardwalk, Tarwin Lower.
Walk along the slow flowing Tarwin River.  A boardwalk beside the river passes the
Historic Hotel (built in 1917), then continues onto the riverside walk past the
Old Butter Factory (1929). There are picnic areas along the way and seats with river views at intervals along the boardwalk.

Cape Paterson - 1 1/2 kms.
Easy. Start at playground near boat ramp. Finish at surf beach near life-saving club.  
Several other walks along the beach. It is great to inspect the rock pools. Don't forget to look for the Rock Swimming Pool near the boat ramp which the Miners blew out in 1910.

Bald Hills Wetland Walk - 2 kms return.
Off Walkerville Tarwin Road; Bird Hide and lake. Look for fantails. Great walk for the kids.

Walkerville North South Link Track.
1/2 hour return and links the North and South settlements. Track starts past the limestone kilns In Walkerville South. Visit the historic cemetery.

Walkerville North - Prom View Estate.
Links the caravan park with Prom View Estate, a side track 700 metres leads to a viewing Platform overlooking Waratah Bay and the peaks of Wilson's Promontory.

Leongatha Rail Trail.
Walk or ride to Koonwarra store and beyond.  Wheelchairs access.

Wonthaggi Wetlands.
Easy walk, cycle or wheelchair accessible. Enter off Dudley Road opposite Pony Club.   
Scenic walk over boardwalk. Terminates at the rear of Safeway.

State Coal Mine above Ground Walk - about 1 kilometre return.
Inspect the historic reserve, buildings & mullock heaps with an option to inspect the museum
and go on an underground tour.
Enquire at Wonthaggi Mines Office for map and tour details.

Wonthaggi North School
Wild Flowers Reserve - 1 km.
Easy walk, cycle or wheelchair accessible. 20 minute walk around bush and wild flowers. Entry at White Road, west side of school

Wonthaggi No.5 Brace walk to Old Rescue Station - 6 kms.
Inspect remains of old No. 5 Brace and Rescue Station, at the same time take in the varied flora and fauna. Look for gate and sign 100m from Caravan Park in Graham Street West.

Wonthaggi Heathlands Walk to Bird Hide and Baxter's Beach.
3 separate walks - enquire at Information centre about Heathland Map        
Bird Hide, Baxter's Beach and Williamson Beach.
Cutlers or Near Beach.
South to Harmer's Haven.

Bass Coast Rail Trail Walk - 16 kms one way.
From Wonthaggi through to Anderson, walk or ride.  

Wonthaggi East Area Trail - 1.4 kms.
Starts at Bass Highway near the end of Fincher Street, goes south behind the Eastern industrial estate and comes out at Cape Paterson Road opposite the End of Garden Street (near Capeview Hardware)
